Easter Sunday saw Helston Athletic win the Senior Cup for the first time in 86 years after originally lifting the trophy back in 1936/37.

The match took place at Blaise Park in St Blazey and saw Helston take on Millbrook AFC who were looking for their first senior cup win.

A big crowd watched on as Helston took the lead early on through Rikki Shepherd a former Millbrook player, Helston would go on to take that 1-0 lead into halftime.

During the second half a dangerous free kick for Millbrook just after the hour mark, led to Ben Goulty getting on the end of the cross for the equalizer. After 90 minutes the game finished 1-1.

As the game entered extra time both sides looked for the winner, the first 15 minutes ended goalless but the second half of extra time provided more than enough entertainment.

Helston's Tom Payne put Athletic 2-1 up in the 106th minute but moments later Millbrook responded when Ed Goodman finished off a corner, levelling the game up at 2-2.

With neither side managing to find a late winner the game then went to penalties, and Helston's keeper Mike Searle stepped up to the occasion with a big save from Millbrook's opening penalty. Helston's spot-takers then went on to score all five of their penalties leaving Millbrook with no chance and giving Athletic the historic victory.
