A St Keverne based caravan park is hoping the conversion of a barn into holiday accommodation will help ease the financial pressures of lockdown.

Zoar Campsite is seeking permission to turn a 1950's barn into holiday lets - in an attempt to broaden the scope of the business.

Submitted by Architectural Solutions on behalf of owners Andrew and Louise Cartwright, they took over the operation in 2020 are now faced with the financial catastrophe of lockdown which has enforced the closure of the site, reopening this year.

The caravan site has been in existence for well over 10 years prior to the acquisition by the current owners.

Disruption of lockdown meant the owners had time to consider the site and the lack of cash flow means changes are needed.

The application reads:

"They have now taken stock of the whole site and feel that their business is vulnerable to market forces because of the very short season enjoyed by the touring caravan and tent market.

"Changes need to be made to ensure that the business remains a part of the local community and sustains and increases local employment."

It concludes:

"This is an opportunity to ensure that a marginal holiday business can become a secure one. This conversion will significantly improve the visual amenity of the Lizard AONB without addition to the footprint of buildings at this location, adding a valuable asset to the holiday industry without taking existing residential accommodation out of the market."
