A new play is showing this week at the Epworth Centre based on the life of legendary Helston-born boxer Bob Fitzsimmons.
Give un Fitz!: The Ballad of Bob Fitzsimmons is the work of award-winning Cornish playwright Alan M.Kent, with Jason Squibb directing the action-packed production.
It stars Adam Trembath as Bob Fitzsimmons with an ensemble cast telling the story of his life - particularly gaining his three heavyweight titles in three separate divisions.
The shows started earlier this week and will continue until Sunday 24th April.
A spokesperson for the show told Nub News:
"It's been very well received by audiences so far with most enjoying the sounds of Helston, projected pictures of Fitzsimmons and his family and opponents along with the professional approach to acting. The last four shows have spare tickets but, along with the Spingo at the bar, they're selling fast."
It is being supported by the Welcome Back Fund and Helston Town Council, they are hopeful the play will regenerate interest in people coming to town and celebrate its cultural and sporting history. The term "Give un Fitz!" is still shouted by children in the town when encouraging someone to do well when they are competing.
You can be assured of plenty of action, lots of Cornish humour and dialect, and a brae ol' bit of fisticuffs.
