Mullion fire crew were called out yesterday after bins caught alight at Poldhu Beach Cafe.

Over 500 litres of water were reportedly needed to put out a fire caused by a disposable BBQ at Poldhu Beach Cafe, Mullion.

The incident occurred yesterday evening (21st) - a hot BBQ was thrown into the cafe's cardboard recycling bin after they had closed.

People walking by the cafe saw smoke billowing out of the bin and rang 999.

"Without the kindness of the public and the fire brigade, the beach cafe could have caught on fire as the bins are close to the building," the cafe posted on social media.

They added:

"Thank you so much to the guys at Mullion Fire Station for acting so quickly and putting out the fire sorry for wasting your time for the mindless act of one idiot. Over 500 litres of water was needed to put it out."

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has been approached for further details.
