Kay Harvey's 5 Tunes of the Week
Hey everyone, another lockdown! So the perfect time to check out new music.
Here's 5 of the new releases, a lot of new material coming out from some old favourites too.
First up.
Emma Bunton, Baby Spice from the Spice Girls this week releases a new charity single raising funds for Children in Need - it's a cover of the Petula Clark hit Downtown, it was No.1 in the USA but only made it to No2 in the UK.
Emma doesn't have the strongest of vocals but she covers this nicely, sugar pop. But I wouldn't be surprised if this didn't get to No1.
19-year-old Molly Hocking from St Ives finally releases her first single, it was supposed to be released back in April but due to covid delays, it was put back, Molly won the Voice 2019.
The track titled After The Night Before. Nice lyrics but I find the single quite boring, to be honest.
Definitely moving away from their hard rock roots, Wolfmother releases their new single, High On My Own Supply causing a lot of controversy amongst their hardcore fans, sighting the single as disappointing and middle of the road pop song. Their words, not mine. Harsh!
I have always been a fan of the alternative rock and metal band Evanescence. To me, they are a Gothic band. Founder and lead vocalist Amy Lynn Hartzler again provides powerful and beautiful vocals to their new single Wasted On You. Again very haunting reminiscent of their massive hit My Immortal. This is their first release in 9 years. Worthy of being a huge hit.
My record of the week is again Tom Grennan's Amen. It was finally released last weekend I received my signed copy at the weekend.
The single gospel and soul-inspired, Toms vocals are as powerful as ever. Amen is a song about an internal battle whether that is with yourself or someone else. I love it and so catchy. I am a massive fan of Tom, he is going to be a hit.
That's it from me for this week.
Take care keep safe.
