Flora Day returned to Lismore in 2022.

Helston could be about to get a new wedding venue as the owners of Lismore bid to host ceremonies at the historic property.

The applicants, Mr and Mrs Corbridge, recently purchased the property and the venue hosted dances again for Flora Day 2022.

Permission is sought for a change of use of an existing dwelling to a mixed-use dwelling with occasional use for the holding of civil wedding ceremonies.

Hosting weddings at Lismore is seen as a way to secure finance to enable repairs/maintenance to take place.

Lismore is the applicants' private family home, and it is their intention that this will continue to be its primary use. However, it is their desire that the property should be used on an occasional basis as a venue for the holding of civil wedding ceremonies. It is anticipated that there would be somewhere between 6 and 15 ceremonies held per year.

The application reads: "It is intended that the ceremonies would, in the main, take place in a marquee sited within the enclosed rear garden of the premises. On occasion, in extreme weather conditions, the ground floor "Drawing Room" (accessed from the rear gardens via the conservatory) could be used for the holding of the service.

"The bridal party will arrive at the front of the property, where there is a parking area for about 10 vehicles. Guests will make their way by foot through the grounds to the rear garden area."

It concludes: "The proposed development will not give rise to any overriding environmental harm, and will have clear social and economic benefits."

The status of the application is "awaiting decision".
