Back in November 2022, a huge number of people raised their concerns over the Uncertainty of Helston GP surgery after partners handed in a termination notice which would see them leave Meneage Street Surgery on the 31st of March 2023.

In the letter sent to patients by the surgery last year, they stated: "The primary care team within Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board (CIOSICB) is working with other GP providers in the area to explore what the future of the surgery might look like."

Yesterday (7th February 2023) the people of Helston finally had an update on the situation when the town's other practice, Helston Medical Centre & Porthleven Surgery shared news of a potential takeover.

On social media, Helston Medical Centre said: "We have been working with the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board (ICB) following the announcement that the Partners at Meneage Street Surgery had handed back their contract. Under such circumstances there were two main options, to look at - taking on a similar contract or patients being asked to register at an alternative practice.

"As the most local practice, we, therefore, decided to take on a contract to provide care to their patients, maintain use of the Meneage Street building (at least initially), and try to keep the care similar to its current form for all Helston patients, irrespective of the registered surgery.

"The aim is that this provides care for Meneage Street patients but doesn't increase the numbers of patients at Helston Medical Centre & Porthleven Surgery. Whilst this is not yet set in stone, it looks like this is the most likely outcome."

Helston Nub News will keep you updated as the story progresses but you can follow the practice on social media here: Helston Medical Centre & Porthleven Surgery.
