There are reportedly still members of the community using Helston skatepark in Coronation Park despite it being closed due to government guidelines.

A message has been released on social media to warn people of the consequences to the equipment while it remains closed for the safety of the community.

"We have been made aware that members of the community are continuing to access the skate park despite the fact that it is currently closed, as per Government guidelines," it stated.

"The police are aware and will take the appropriate action should anyone be found in or using the skate park equipment."

The skatepark currently has posters out the front stating that it is closed until further notice, with a description on social distancing.

The social media message said the skatepark would reopen "as soon as current guidelines allow" and thanked the community for their cooperation.

A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police said:

"I've spoken to the local team who have advised that they are aware of reports of the park still being used and it is an area they are continuing to patrol."

The Government guidelines on skateboarding are as follows:

  • All skateparks remain CLOSED and should not be used

• Stay active alone and at home

• Continue to wash your hands regularly

If you do wish to use your daily exercise time to skate:

• Skate Alone // DO NOT use skateparks or shared public spaces // Keep it mellow

The police have been contacted for a comment.
