Volunteers from the Falmouth and Helston branch of Cats Protection took part in a virtual marathon relay to raise money for their charity on Sunday (26th April).

Due to the current coronavirus, a lot of the charity's fundraising has taken a big hit as many fundraising events have been cancelled.

The virtual marathon saw volunteers walk, run and swim throughout the day.

Chris Reynolds, a volunteer at Cats Protection Falmouth and Helston district branch told Nub News:

"This year we will struggle to raise money as most of our events will be cancelled due to social distancing.

"Even small donations add up and every little helps us to do more work within our community."

The volunteers took their daily exercise and logged it, aiming to get to marathon length 26 miles by the end of the day.

"I wasn't really sure that we would complete it in one day but we did. Not all volunteers could get out for a walk but we had one start us off with a mile swim and another do a mile around her garden," Chris continued.

The fundraiser has raised its £260 target, all of the money raised will stay with the local branch.

Cats Protection rescue lost and abandoned cats in the area, making sure they have a full vet check and making sure they are in full health and cared for.

They run on a completely volunteer basis and care for cats at their home or in dedicated rooms.

The charity offers £5 neuter and microchip vouchers to people on a low income. You can find out more by calling 03453 712729 or visiting their website.

The fundraiser is still active until the closing date of 3rd May.
