New skateboard shop The Edge of Adventure opens in Helston

Yesterday was the first day of business for new Helston skateboard shop The Edge of Adventure.

The outlet is based on Penzance Road in the business park and owned by Christian Richard, the shop sells surfing, skateboard and scooter gear among other things.

Christian told Nub News:

"I am from Canada originally and 20 years ago I moved here, working in a sports shop with mountain bikes and ski gear.

"Back in March I was furloughed, I saw that there was nothing out there job-wise so I decided to do my own thing.

"I drove past here and this building has been empty for about seven years now, I asked next door and took on the building."

When Christian took up the place in early October it was full of tractors and diesel engines, but a really quick turnover to clean up the place has the place looking really slick.

Christian is hoping by Christmas to have around 250 decks in the shop.

The shop holds an exclusive range of scooters, wetsuits, surfboards, kites and other accessories.

Christian continued:

"The response we have had so far has been really good, Helston doesn't have a designated skate shop, you can go to Penzance or Falmouth but even then they don't have a huge amount of selection. It is nice to have something down here for the kids who are using the skatepark."

How does Christian describe the place in three words?

He added:

"Fun, adventurous, active"
