Helston's secondary schools and colleges will re-open again on January 18th, the Government have announced this afternoon (Wednesday).

This will happen throughout England but primary schools, other than certain ones in high-risk areas, will re-open as normal on Monday next week.

On January 4th, schools will prepare for testing of staff and students and will only be open to vulnerable children or those of key workers.

Today, Education secretary Gavin Williamson said:

"We will be opening the majority of primary schools as planned on Monday January 4.

"In a small number of areas where the infection rates are highest … only vulnerable children or children of key workers will attend face to face."

But he added:

"We have already announced our intention for a staggered return to education this term for secondary age pupils and those in colleges.

"Because the Covid infection rate is particularly high among this age group, we are going to allow more time so every school and college are able to roll out testing for all of its' pupils and staff.

"This kind of mass testing will not only protect children and young people, it will benefit everyone in the community. It will break those chains of transmission that are making infection rates shoot up."
