Woman was assaulted by two men in Helston church yard: police launch probe after passers by intervened

Police have launched an investigation following a serious sexual assault in Helston over the weekend.

It is reported that a 19-year-old woman was subjected to serious sexual by two men in St Michael's Church yard, Helston between 2-3am on Sunday 9 July.

Inspector Christopher Donald said: "We have launched an investigation following a serious sexual assault in Helston.

"The victim is currently being supported by specialist officers and at this time no arrests have been made.

"It is believed that the assault was interrupted by a man and a woman who were in the area and came to the aid of the victim; at this time, they have not made themselves known to police.

"It is vital that we identify and speak to this couple as they could have information vital to the investigation."

Insp Donald added: "We have undertaken door-to-door enquiries and continue to secure and trawl CCTV as part of our investigation, but we are also appealing for witnesses and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area from 1:30-3:30am on Sunday 9 July who may have seen anything suspicious.

"We are also wanting to hear from anyone that may have CCTV, doorbell, dash or helmet cam footage that could assist us with our enquiries. If you have yet to have spoken with an officer and have any information that could assist, please contact us immediately."
