Yesterday (24th Jan), Helston lost its last permanent bank as Lloyds closed its doors claiming people were using their branches less frequently in recent years as more customers choose to do most of their everyday banking online.

Earlier this month Nub News reported that Helston Post Offices would be providing key baking services such as deposits, free cash withdrawals, and balance checks (click the link for more).

However, it was clear that many of you were still concerned so I got in touch with Barclays who also closed their branch in Helston last February (2022) to get a reminder about their weekly pop-up bank in town.

A Barclays spokesperson said: "Our customers' behaviour has changed significantly in recent years, with the majority now choosing online banking. In Helston, we have found a new way to support our customers by maintaining our community presence with options for those who still require in-person support without the need to travel.

"We have opened a Barclays Local – a pop-up cashless banking site where customers can meet a colleague face-to-face for banking support, as they would in a branch. Barclays Local colleagues provide face-to-face assistance, helping customers with their everyday finances and money management needs. Each Barclays Local also offers free digital skills workshops and fraud and scams awareness events for the community."

Barclays Local service in Helston is located at The Old Cattle Market, Porthleven Road, Helston TR13 0SR – opening times are Tuesdays and Fridays 9.30 am – 3.30 pm.
