A Helston vintage shop is gaining quite a reputation for its window displays.

Lady Eve Vintage, based at the top of Meneage Street, is owned by Bee Pellow and Jan Williams.

Bee and Jan met at a craft fair around 6 years ago – seeing they had similar lifestyles and interests, they merged to open the shop in August 2020.

The shop needed a bit of work and took 9 months to renovate – putting on their builders' hats amongst the cold and dust to take on the work themselves.

Lady Eve Vintage really is a dream for anybody who has an interest or collects vintage. They offer a personal shopping experience with focus all on the customer to find something to suit their style.

Bee and Jan told Nub News:

"We like our customers to feel relaxed when they come in. Often it is not about a purchase, it is about spending time with a customer and having a chat.

"It is good to have a discussion to find what that person's vintage vibe is. Depending on the decades and cut of the individual garments they differ very much. We are very much advocates of putting vintage into today's wardrobes rather than dressing up. However, we do also stock outfits for people who regularly attend nostalgia events.

"Our range is from the 1920's right through to the mid 80's – hopefully there is something for everybody. If people don't want to wear vintage we offer the vintage textiles, we can do all the lampshades, suitcases, bags, notebooks, we also knit as well. We just hope that when people come in, they enjoy the space."

Bee and Jan have both collected vintage for years which means their knowledge is very high - they can offer back stories, guidance, and styling tips.

One of the key features of the shop is its vibrant window displays which are constantly changing. The window displays are a chance for Bee and Jan to show how complete and diverse the Lady Eve range is. The displays have varied from Remembrance Day, 1950's Cornish Riviera, Halloween, Valentine's Day, and the Olympics.

The window displays have become popular with customers on Instagram – with each post receiving lots of likes and positive comments. An impressive milestone, their page now has over 1,000 followers.

Bee and Jan continued:

"We don't want to keep the vintage clothing in the window for more than a week. It isn't good for it. The displays give people a chance to see on rotation what we have to offer. We use news events to make the story and that brings it all together.

"The styling comes from that storyline; we might decide the girls are going shopping this week so everything they wear is about what they'd wear if they were going to the mall. If they are going to the beach, they'll wear beach items - we even brought in sand for the beach display. Of course, it is all vintage from the windbreak, flags, to the bucket and spade."

They added:

"We are big believers in the quality, longevity, and individuality of vintage fashion. If somebody wants something unique and special vintage is the way to go."
