Helston Town Council has responded with an update to the news that public toilets will could soon be reopening across Cornwall.

The news was announced on social media by Cornwall Council saying that public toilets are set for reopening if the right measures are in place.

Cornwall Council said:

"We plan to reopen the few Cornwall Council toilets by June 15th, once we the right social distancing and hygiene measures in place.

"Most public toilets are managed by town and parish councils or local groups who we are advising on how to safely reopen their toilets."

Monument Walk and Trengrouse Way public conveniences were both opened a few weeks ago with signs being put up on both reading:

"If abused, the toilets will be closed again without notice. This area is monitored by CCTV."

The council also asks that social distancing is respected in both of those sites.

Chris Dawson, Helston Town Clerk told Nub News:

"Helston Town Council is responsible for three sets of public conveniences. Two of them are unisex, single, self-contained units that are disabled friendly (bottom of Trengrouse Way and Monument Walk).

"In consultation with the cleaning contractor, these were both re-opened on 22nd May ahead on the bank holiday weekend.

"The toilets at the rear of the Guildhall remain closed because of the single narrow entranceway leading to the ladies and gents sides. Social distancing here would be extremely difficult.

"Therefore a sign has been placed in the window advising to use one of the other two nearby toilets. This will be regularly reviewed to take account of the latest Government guidance."
