Cornish Tin Ltd is exploring a tin mine near Breage for a proposed operation at Wheal Vor.
The company has been contacting landowners asking for consent to install drilling equipment in their property.
In an open letter to residents in the area from Wheal Vor/Wheal Metal residents drilling discussion group, they said that neighbours have been offered money to allow drilling rigs to operate on their land.
They added:
"They do not want this to happen, and have already been threatened with legal action by this company if they refuse consent to drilling."
Company representative Jeff Harrison responded to the rumours, confirming there was interest in the mine.
If it went ahead, the drilling would take place for up to 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 6 months or more.
The Wheal Vor discussion group added:
"We have also been surprised and concerned that so few of the local residents have been told about this, considering the massive impact it would have on all our lives should it be allowed to go ahead. As far as we are aware no one but the targeted landowners have been contacted."
There is a public meeting proposed for March, but this would be after a general development planning order has been gained.
"We feel that all local residents need to be fully aware of this, and are considering how best to go about making that happen and hearing your thoughts," a spokesperson added.
