Proposal for new glamping site on the Lizard

A bid has been lodged to change agricultural land into a glamping site during the summer months in Predannack, on the Lizard Peninsula.

Submitted by R A Design on behalf of Mrs Burgess - the applicant is hoping for permission for a "change of use" to form a seasonal glamping site with up to 10 tents and portable services.

The campsite would run from April to October, with the land reverting back to agricultural through the rest of the year.

The applicant is looking at 10 tents but for the first year at least, in order to establish the enterprise, it is thought only 4 tents with one toilet block with two separate toilet/shower rooms (1 per two tents) would be required.

The services would be contained within small timber portable structures. It is envisaged there would eventually be two toilets each end with a roof joining the two together for shelter, and in between these, there would be a small kitchen-type facility.

The shower/toilet would be portable with no electricity required as it would be gas showers and solar lights the roof would just unscrew and then each unit movable by forklift.

The proposed accommodation would be provided in a row of 5 meter bell tents that would be set on top of removable decking. The tents would be positioned to run across the back hedge furthest away from the road and as far apart from each other as the space will allow with the toilet block towards the southern end of the site close to existing buildings.

The application concludes:

"The proposed scale and quality of the tourist accommodation proposed in this instance would be of economic benefit to the area while limiting any environmental impacts. The site is relatively sustainably located in relation to Lizard village and on the main road, with an adjoining bus stop. The site visually sits between existing development, including an established holiday site immediately adjoining it to the north, with development being recessively located away from the road with Cornish hedge screening. The proposals are considered to have the support of the development plan policies and national planning policy framework and should therefore be approved without delay."
