Following further enquiries police believe the fire at Nick Ferris Skip Hire overnight is not thought to be arson.

Firefighters were battling a blaze at the business, Longdowns on the Falmouth to Helston road since 7:45pm yesterday evening (Monday 31st).

Fire engines from Falmouth, Helston, and Tolvaddon attended along with water carriers from Helston and Wadebridge, and a welfare unit from St Dennis.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and main jets to extinguish the fire.

Crews remained at the scene until 7am the following morning damping down the scene.

In an update a Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson told Nub News:

"Large warehouse fire containing skip waste in Penryn.

"Initial assessment from the fire service is that the fire is believed to be suspicious.

"We have been contacted and are treating as arson at this time.

"Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious at the premises yesterday evening from 5.30pm is asked to contact police via [email protected] with crime reference CR/009147/22."

Following that statement and closer inspection police said the fire is no longer being treated as suspected arson.

However, the fire service remains on the scene launching an investigation into the cause of the fire.
