Heavy rainfall is expected to hit Helston and the surrounding area this weekend with a yellow warning being issued for the area.

The Met Office has forecast periods of heavy rain on Saturday that may lead to flooding and disruption to transport.

There is also expected to be very strong winds.

The Kernow Weather Team said:

"We could see very heavy rain on Saturday leading to localized flooding, large areas of standing water, surface spray and travel disruption, railway, and roads.

"High rainfall totals are likely with 20-30mm widely with the potential 40-60mm across higher ground. Strong winds will also lead to loose debris therefore adding to drainage issues."

What you can expect

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
