HM Coastguard has issued a warning to residents after Portuguese Man O'War have been reported to have washed up in West Cornwall.

During the week a resident in a Lizard community group posted a photo of the sea creature at Pentreath Beach, with a second resident reporting a few smaller ones at the local fishing cove.

The coastguard was notified of the Man O'War washing up following recent rough weather.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard Area 11 Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Coastal Safety said:

"Please do not touch these beautiful creatures and keep your pets away from them as they can give a nasty sting.

"Most stings from sea creatures in the UK are not serious and can be treated with first aid. Sometimes you may need to go to the hospital."

If in any doubt and you need help call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
