The Lady Eve vintage shop has fought back against graffiti being sprayed on their shop by asking local artists on their Facebook page to come and create something inspiring for Helston.

Owners Bee Pellow and Jan Williams said that Jordan Lauder, an artist from Bude, offered to come and paint a full mural, as long as he could design the whole thing. After sending a proof image over Bee and Jan were thrilled, saying: "We thought it was such a lovely image that captured the spirit of Flora Day, such a special part of Helston."

The shop has been keeping people updated with posts on their social media and have been flooded with positive responses, "the people of Helston are as thrilled by this happening as we are, we think it's a pivotal moment, even the town mayor has been on board eagerly following the progress," they added.

Now the mural is complete the artist Jordan or 'SpraySaint' his artist name and Instagram art account had time to reflect on a busy week, he commented: "The artwork has had a great reaction from the public. From both the younger and the older generations. And everyone I spoke to said that we need more of this kind of thing around. One man said that I should carry on and paint the entire street."

Jordan offered his time up for free not only to help promote his work but for his passion for art and the benefits that come with it, he continued: "Cornwall is generally untouched in terms of street art. And there are too many drab and unloved walls around, street art can be very beneficial to the area it's in. Besides making the place look nicer for locals, it can attract new people to visit to see the artwork also, which in turn benefits the local businesses and upcoming artists."

After opening two years ago during the lockdown period Bee and Jan are hopeful this is just what's needed to give the town a boost, "we have to say how positive this has been for Helston, people are excited, noticing, and coming to view it. I hope it starts something good," Jan added.
