A Helston shop has announced its closure on social media stating that the landlord of the premises wants to turn it into a residential dwelling.

Shop Locally, situated on Meneage Street, has today announced that they are being forced to close due to their landlord wanting to renovate the property into a flat.

Ben Faulkner, manager of Shop Locally, wrote on social media:

"I am going to be open right to the very end.

"I am without sympathy to him but feel deeply saddened that I am having to say goodbye to my loyal and loving customers you will all be missed.

"I don't know what date my doors will close yet but I will endeavour to keep you all informed.

"Again I am truly sorry and grateful at the same time for all of your lovely comments and thoughts along the way."

Ben told Nub News that there is nothing he can do and it is a 'shame' as he was building up a good rapport with Helston.

The shop previously spoke to Nub News about the negativity they received from locals for being open throughout lockdown.

Ben said:

"We serve bread, milk, butter, eggs - we are an essential shop and I don't see why I should have to close.

"It doesn't make it easy for me when I'm getting negativity from people I am just trying to help."

One resident responded to the announcement from Shop Locally today, saying:

"I hope you can find alternative premises, you have worked so hard and served the community so well during these difficult last months."

Another resident stated: "Oh no that's dreadful especially after all the hard work you have put into the shop. Are you going to try other premises in town? Such a shame to lose a good little shop like yours."
