Helston Rugby Club successful in bid for new floodlights
Training sessions at Helston Rugby Club will continue to be delivered safely all year round following a successful bid for new floodlights.
The club applied for two additional floodlight poles covering the training area and pitch for use during training sessions.
Training sessions are put on for the local community every weeknight, with the proposed additional floodlights required to support these activities.
After granting conditional approval, the planning officer concluded:
"Whilst the poles are of considerable height, their slimline nature together with them being situated in the context of the rugby pitch, existing floodlighting and associated clubhouse and enclosures ensures that they would be read amongst the established infrastructure and as part of the land use.
"Whilst the lighting of the masts during dark hours would result in increased prominence of the structures during times of operation, the limited nature that this would occur would ensure that adverse visual harm would be minimal. A condition restricting the hours the floodlights can be operated would protect neighbouring properties amenities whilst also ensuring that any visual harm is minimised."
A study was also completed that showed the floodlights would not give rise to adverse neighbour harm and that light spill would be minimal on the nearest neighbouring dwellings.
Helston Town Council recommended approval of the plans. Overall there were no objections.
