The Helston Rotary Club has made a donation to an emergency appeal for Ukraine as the town continues to show its support to the country.
Russia invaded Ukraine on Thursday 24th February and this has resulted in mass bloodshed and destruction. The United Nations estimates over 1.5 million people have fled Ukraine since the conflict began with many of them heading for Poland.
At a meeting of the club last week, an £1,000 donation was made out of the Rotary Foundation.
This money was available to other clubs in Poland and Romania to help refugees.
Helston Rotary Club President Amanda Boxer said:
"The heartbreaking images of bombing, destruction, and of citizens fleeing from Ukraine have been difficult to watch and take in.
"At the meeting of Helston Rotary Club members decided to use the Rotary international network to provide support.
"There are 46 Rotary Clubs in Ukraine and 79 in Poland. Volunteers are working at border crossings providing practical and emotional support. The donation of £1000 is given in the spirit of service and fellowship"
