Do you consider yourself a part of Helston? Have you lived in Helston for a long time or maybe had a business in the town?

Over the summer photographer, Simon Colgan is going to be set up in the Museum of Cornish Life with his pop up studio waiting to take your picture.

In 2019 Simon also became a trustee at the Museum of Cornish Life.

Simon Colgan told Nub News:

"I grew up in Helston then I left for many years and came back again, my father was a police officer in Helston back in the 70s and early 80s.

"I was looking through photos of the police officers from old newspapers and there was a series of pictures with a little bit of information about them. I had an idea of revisiting them and photographing them now, from 1970 to 2020.

"I was looking at a photographer called Daniel Meadows, he did something called the Photobus project where he went around the country in a double-decker bus and took pictures of communities and then revisited them. I thought rather than just limiting it to the police, there are lots of characters in Helston and lots of people who are well known. Why don't I just do a living document of Helston?

The hope is that a community fund will be secured so the photos can be printed and displayed in the museum, and on a digital archive, Simon added:

"I am going to be set up in the museum at different times in the year and dates to be confirmed yet. People can just drop in at any time and have their picture taken, this will go into a document that will be continued year after year. It keeps a living record that people can access."

The dates are yet to be arranged but will be posted on a Facebook page called "Faces of Helston". There will also be posters around the town and museum. Click the red button below to visit the Facebook page.
