Dentists have been given the green-light to start work again today but patients are warned that delays are likely because of the short notice given by the government.

Practices have had to introduce new hygiene measures, which will effect the number of patients seen and the times between appointments as well as imposing social distance restrictions.

Smile Dentalcare Helston, based on Meneage Street, has told patients safety is their top priority and they'll reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.

In a statement addressed to patients, they said:

"We are working to get these measures implemented as quickly as we can and will be reopening once we are satisfied that we have all the necessary processes and personal protective equipment (PPE) in place."

"Please do not attempt to contact the practice to make an appointment or request a start date. We will communicate to you when the practice is ready to see patients."

Meneage Dental has welcomed the "surprise news" that dental practices can resume face to face appointments from 8th June.

In a statement the practice said:

"Over the last few weeks, we have been working hard to make sure that everything required is in place to ensure a safe, phased return for both our patients and our team.

"We will start back by prioritising those that have had problems and pain over the lockdown period and we will be contacting you very soon."
