No new deaths relating to coronavirus in Devon and Cornwall have been registered in the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures.

The figures from the ONS, relate to the week of September 19th and September 25th, but were registered up to October, and show that none of the 310 deaths that occurred in the two counties saw COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate. The previous week saw three of 318 deaths mention COVID-19.

But there has been a death in Derriford Hospital in Plymouth that occurred following a positive COVID-19 test on October 2, which, as long as COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, would appear in next week's figures.

And it is understood that there has also been a death in Torbay – which would be the first since June – that has occurred most recently than the data set covers.

It is the sixth week in a row were no new deaths were recorded in Cornwall and also the 15th week in a row across Devon and Cornwall combined that the number of deaths has been in single figures.

Previous weeks have seen 3, 0, 2, 0, 1, 2, 1, 0, 1, 2, 2, 5, 1, 7, 10, 11, 15, 38, 44, 69, 84, 107, 89, 60, 16 and nine deaths registered.

The Isles of Scilly has still yet to see a COVID-19 related death and the South Hams and North Devon have gone 18 weeks, Torridge 17 weeks, Torbay 16 weeks, Exeter and Teignbridge 15 weeks, Mid Devon has nine weeks, Cornwall and East Devon six weeks, West Devon three weeks, and Plymouth one week without a death being registered.

No backdated deaths were added to the dataset this week.

In total, 581 deaths from coronavirus have been registered across Devon and Cornwall, with 306 in hospitals, 229 in care homes, 45 at home, and one in a hospice.

Of the deaths, 210 have been registered in Cornwall, 95 in Plymouth, 58 in Torbay, 50 in East Devon, 39 in Exeter, 33 in Teignbridge, 26 in North Devon, 20 in Torridge, 19 in Mid Devon, 19 in West Devon, 12 in the South Hams and none on the Isles of Scilly.
