Dog ban on beaches set to come into force this week

There will be further bans for dogs on beaches starting this week, from Wednesday 1st July.

Beaches on the Lizard, Mullion and Porthleven will have restrictions in place 1st July - 31st August, 10am - 6pm.

Following a Dogs on Beaches Consultation, regulations for dogs on beaches in Cornwall have been simplified and harmonised.

Rob Nolan, Cabinet Member for Environment and Public Protection, decided that the new restrictions would come into place from July and August. Except on beaches with Blue Flag and Seaside Award status where restrictions will apply for four and a half months.

The restrictions apply to 43 beaches in total (there are over 300 beaches in Cornwall). It will be in place for three years unless reviewed.

Beaches that will have bans include:

  • Housel Bay, The Lizard
  • Kennack Sands Beach, The Lizard
  • Kynance Cove, The Lizard
  • Cadgwith Cove, The Lizard

  • Poldhu Beach, Mullion
  • Polurrian Cove Beach, Mullion
  • Church Cove, Gunwalloe
  • Porthleven West
