Coronation Park team left 'disappointed' following series of vandalism incidents

By Joseph Macey 9th Dec 2019

One of Cornwall's most historic parks was subject to three incidents of vandalism last week.

Coronation Park in Helston experienced bins being moved leaving mess and debris and information signs being removed and broken.

On the parks Facebook page, a community officer wrote:

"This week we have sadly been subject to vandalism and anti-social behaviour, all three incidents completely mindless and unnecessary.

Tuesday evening, wheelie bins were removed from the rear of the cafe and found at the bridge entering the main island, JP Fitness kindly returned the bins.

"Tuesday evening also saw damage to one of the large information signs, forcibly removed from its 2 large wooden posts, it was retrieved from the river by Grenfell Williams, one of our volunteers, who managed to repair and reinstall.

"On Sunday we were saddened to see the destruction and damage to yet another sign, again, forcibly removed from its posts near the boat hire shed. Regrettably, this sign might be beyond repair and require replacement, at a substantial cost to the Park.

"These incidents have been logged online with the Police and reported to the neighbourhood policing team, along with potential suspects.

"To say the Park Team, volunteers and office staff are disappointed is an understatement."
