Prime Minister Boris Johnson faced a vote of no confidence this evening.

Boris Johnson will continue as Prime Minister after winning a confidence vote this evening.

We reported earlier how a vote of confidence in Boris Johnson was due to take place this evening, with the results being announced at 9pm.

The results are now in, with Tory MPs voting by 211 to 148 votes to keep Johnson as Prime Minister, meaning he remains in the role by a margin of 63 votes.

If Johnson lost, he would have been forced to stand down as Prime Minister and the Conservatives would have then chosen a new leader.

The vote came after months of scandal over 'Partygate', which saw the Prime Minister fined by police over rule-breaking lockdown gatherings at Downing Street.

Derek Thomas cast his no confidence vote back in April.

Nub News contacted West Cornwall MP Derek Thomas to ask whether he thought the Prime Minister should resign.

He responded by saying: "This evening's vote of No Confidence can either draw a line under the past months of questions about the suitability of the PM for this high office or allow it to fester on.

"It is not straightforward to change a Prime Minister, but in my gut I know it is the right thing to do - which is why I submitted my letter of No Confidence back on the 21st of April."

More to follow.
