Today marked the opening of the new Fishermen's Mission shop, with Helston Town Mayor John Martin cutting the ribbon.

The shop has moved into a bigger premises in Coinagehall Street, taking over a site which used to be occupied by a jobcentre.

There are three floors to the new site, with a dedicated space on the top floor for Fishermen to spend time in and talk with someone.

Manager at Fishermen's Mission Melinda King said:

"Excited, and hopefully everyone will be excited to be in here as well. It is nice that it is all finished but it was different because it was only me and there wasn't the DIY SOS community project that I envisaged but it is nice that everyone can now come in and see what the place has turned into."

Also at the opening was an army of volunteers, a lot of people offered their services to which Melinda says is "brilliant".

Melinda wanted to thank her husband Jason King, "to whom this would never have happened," she said.

Also, Jude and Julie Johnson, Peter Slinn (Bradfords), Liam Wilcock (Jewsons), Sam Duckham (Travis Perkins), Kevin Williams (Carpet Connection), Leedstown Timber Supplies, J.B. Construction and Tony from Plumb Crazy.
