'Bathing not advised': Sewage overflow warning near Mullion following heavy rainfall

SEWAGE warnings have been issued at Polurrian and Poldhu following recent heavy rainfall.
Yesterday we brought the news that the Met Office had put in place a weather warning as there could be 'unseasonably' strong winds and 'remnants' of Storm Kyle.
Surfers Against Sewage said on social media:
"Heavy rainfall means CSOs are spewing sewage into UK rivers and bathing waters as we speak."
The details of the bathing water quality can be found on an interactive map by clicking here.
At Polurrian Cove, "Storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in this location within the past 48 hours.
"Polurrian Cove is on the south coast of Cornwall. It is a rural sandy cove, approximately 330 metres wide, surrounded by rocks and steep cliffs. A stream flows onto the beach and disperses over the sand.
"There is an emergency overflow from the Polbream pumping station, that discharges to the sea 270m from the Environment Agency monitoring point. There is an emergency overflow from the pumping station at Polurrian Cove public conveniences, that discharges to the Mullion Brook 160m from the Environment Agency monitoring point."
At Poldhu Cove, "Bathing not advised today due to the likelihood of reduced water quality.
"Poldhu Cove is on the south coast of Cornwall. It is a small sandy cove, approximately 250 metres wide, backed by sand dunes. A stream flows across the beach to the sea. There are six farms in the catchment.
"During and after periods of heavy rainfall, runoff to the Poldhu Stream from agricultural areas is greatly increased, and the quality of the bathing water may be reduced. This location is covered by Pollution Risk Forecasting."
