The owners of The Red Lion Helston, based on Church Street, celebrated their fifth anniversary recently, an important milestone for the business.

Opened in 2016 by Hayley Nicholas and her sister Kayla, Hayley has spent her whole life in the pub industry, previously working as a waitress before moving on to manage The Seven Stars until the "ideal opportunity" came up to take over The Red Lion.

This Saturday (23rd) there will be a Party in the USA at the pub in tribute to Hayley's sister who relocated with her partner to America for three years.

There will be fancy dress, karaoke and cocktails as Hayley and her sister celebrate the milestone.

Speaking to Nub News, Hayley said the pub has come a "long way" since they first opened, with extensive improvements done to the building, most notably in the garden.

On the highlights of the last five years, Hayley said:

"Fully opening again this year was a massive deal. Last year was really difficult for everybody, when we reopened the town seemed to really embrace it and we were really busy.

"We have been really lucky that we do have those people that came and kept supporting us."

Looking ahead, Hayley said they are looking forward to the World Cup 2022, Christmas parties, supporting Cornwall Christmas Box Appeal, and potentially their own mini Christmas lights switch on after the cancellation of the big town event this year.

Hayley added:

"It was a really difficult time when we were shut but we are really grateful for the local support, we have been overwhelmed with how busy we have been since we reopened. Here's to the next five years."
