Opening day for new shop in Helston stocking drinks and snacks from all over the world

By Joseph Macey 11th Nov 2021

It's the opening day for a new business in Helston, Gilchrist Exotics, a shop offering a wide range of drinks, snacks, and CBD from across the world.

Owned by husband-and-wife team Becky and Michael, the idea came through lockdown, they started to put on stalls at car boot sales over the summer before moving into their new premises on Meneage Street.

The new shop opens Saturday morning (6th) at 9am. Speaking to Nub News, Becky and Michael said:

"We always thought, how cool would it be to have somewhere like this in Helston? We have seen similar shops when we have visited places in Devon, and we loved the idea, so lockdown gave us the perfect time to get things together."

The shop is selling a lot of unique things from Mango Rum, Blue Raspberry Vodka, flavoured Fanta's, and Carolina Reaper Cheese Curls. Things that you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else locally.

The stock is always growing as Becky places orders for new things regularly, and they're open to recommendations for items people would like to see in the shop.

Gilchrist Exotics really has something for everyone with products for kids, and their wide range of CBD items. They also plan to branch out into imported groceries in the next few weeks.

They added:

"I think Helston needs something different, we are really excited and hope it goes well. We hope to grow and keep expanding our stock.

"We want to encourage everyone to visit our shop, and hopefully they see something they like. It's a bit different to what you usually get on the high street and there is a lot of new things here which is always good, come and look around."
