Helston events 2022: Free activities for local people thanks to Welcome Back Fund

An events calendar for 2022 in Helston has been released - with lots of free activities for local people.

With support from a Welcome Back Fund (WBF) Project Group comprised of councillors and community group representatives have organised a programme of activity for the early part of the year.

The WBF is wholly funded by the European Regional Development Fund and is designed to attract people back into town centres after the Covid-19 pandemic, in the safest way possible.

There are lots of free activities for local people to enjoy, starting from today (Monday 21st).

February

Crazy Golf Day

21st 11am - 4pm Countywide cultural programme: Crazy Golf Day, free of charge - Events Area, Coronation Park.

Free Lantern-Making Workshops

22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th 10am - 4pm Community Heritage Project, Free Lantern-Making Workshops, prep for the Light Procession (5th March), CAST.

Mobile Theatre

25th Cornish Anarchy Mobile Theatre, audience participation, some time inbetween these times 12:30pm Horse and Jockey Lane, 12:50pm Market Place, 1:15pm Boating Lake.

Animate Helston

22nd - 26th 10:30am, 1pm & 3pm daily Animate Helston: Half Term Screenings 'Ernest and Celestine' - A delightful comedy animation, CAST black box.

Animate Helston Family Workshops

22nd – 26th - Animate Helston Splendid Hut: Due to the high winds forecast there will not be a hut outside, but the family workshops will still take place.

March

St Piran's Day

5th St Piran's Day 5:30pm - 8pm Community Heritage Project, Light Procession, Market Place. And from 5pm - 6pm Pasties & hevva cakes competition, Guildhall: Corn Exchange.

Photography competition

7th Love Helston Photography Competition: winning images go on display in town centre (locations to be confirmed).

Kickstart Helston Theatre

11th at 6:30pm and 12th at 11am and 2pm Kickstart Helston Theatre: Coppice Theatre Science Show, Museum.

Poetry Jukebox

11th 11am-1pm Poetry Jukebox 2022. Venue TBC.

Kickstart Helston Theatre

19th 12:30-1:30 around the town. 2pm - 3pm free workshop. Kickstart Helston Theatre: Sally Crabtree, Cultural Animateur, Museum.

Kickstart Helston Music

19th Music Day – a number of gigs of different genres culminating with a headline act, Monument Walk, Methodist Church porch, Market Place, Drill Hall Yard.

Writing workshop

26th 11am-1pm Writing workshop at the Museum of Cornish Life in honour of Henry Trengrouse's 250th birthday.

Kickstart Helston Theatre

31st 7:30pm - 9pm Kickstart Helston Theatre: Contemporary Dance Sharing Session, Epworth Hall (Centre).

Bob Fitzsimmons talk

Tuesday 29 March at 2:30pm in The Museum, to be delivered by local historian Patrick Carroll.

Bob Fitzsimmons tour

Countywide cultural programme: Guided heritage tours featuring Bob Fitzsimmons's cottage, Town Centre.

April

Bob Fitzsimmons event

18th - 24th Countywide cultural programme: The Ballad of Bob Fitzsimmons - premiere and performances running through the week, Epworth Hall (Centre).
