Last month signalled the opening of the brand new Blues Kitchen at Helston Football Club, with the former owners of The Hideaway Porthleven moving into their new home at the club.

A new start and a new home for Paul and Jo Osborne after they handed over The Hideaway to new owners after over 8 years in charge.

Catching up with Nub News about Blues Kitchen, they said the start the life at Kellaway Park has been "brilliant" – made easier with total backing from the club.

Paul and Jo are serving up football food favourites with a twist, with porridge, waffles, various ciabattas, sandwiches and salads, loads to choose from. You can enjoy all those with good coffee, tea or hot chocolate.

Taking in the surroundings at the club, Paul and Jo have a great little new set up next to the pitch with benches outside, they told Nub News:

"The support from the committee has been unreal, it takes the weight off the club as well because they don't have to worry about the food or the kitchen.

"Paul (chairman) and Sandra have been great with us, any ideas we have had we know we can take it to them, the committee and really quick to come back and help us out with anything.

"Everyone seems to be happy with the menu so far, we have tried to keep it similar to what it was but add our own ideas to it. We have just put on chilli on chips, that has gone down a storm recently.

"The porridge is something different as well, we are not trying to step on anyone's toes in the town, there are some great businesses in the town and we want to add to it."

Working on matchdays is a change of pace from life at The Hideaway with the first home game welcoming in nearly 500 people. There are also games during midweek, youth fixtures and other events, with Paul and Jo preparing food for the teams away fixtures.

They continued:

"What we want to do is to get those matchdays right, find what the players want and what they don't want and build it from there.

"It is important for the supporters to know what they are getting when they come here, it is about being consistent."

The Blues Kitchen will also be sponsoring every youth team game once the season starts, a player of the match bottle of water will be handed out.

Paul and Jo added:

"The parents have all been really supportive, so it is a bit of a token of appreciation, they are looking after us, so we will try and do as much as possible for them.

"The women's team have been brilliant too, they used us for their end of season food when we started here, as did the vets team. We are getting a lot of requests for functions and that is another avenue for us, but we just want to take it one step at a time, it is going in the right direction though."
