A blow for the town this week as Barclays on Coinagehall Street, Helston, is set to close.

A notice has been put up in the bank this week announcing the branch will close on February 9th 2022 at 12pm.

The next nearest banks will be in Camborne or Falmouth.

The notice in the bank reads:

"You will still have plenty of options, including online banking and the Barclays app, that are available 24 hours a day."

This means Lloyds will be the only remaining bank in the town centre.

A spokesperson for Barclays told Nub News:

"The decision to close a branch is never an easy one. However, customers are increasingly using alternatives to branches to do their banking. As a result, we are seeing a sustained fall in branch visits across the UK.

"This is reflected at the Helston branch where there has been a 15 per cent reduction in counter transactions in the two years to March 2020. In addition, eight out of ten (82 per cent) of our customers at the branch are also using different ways to bank.

"We will work with our customers and provide alternative options to ensure they can continue to manage their money and receive financial expertise when required."
