People are invited to wave farewell to the Royal Navy's Hawk T1 jets as the veteran aircraft are retired from service.

They will fly around the coast of Cornwall on Thursday, March 24th, for the last time.

An exact route can't be given but the plan is for two Hawks to depart Culdrose for Plymouth then turn around and fly clockwise around Cornwall before departing up-country.

Schedule for Thursday, March 24th:

  1. 30pm depart Culdrose and head towards Plymouth
  2. 40 pm Tregantle (western edge of Plymouth)
  3. 43pm St Austell
  4. 47pm Culdrose
  5. 50pm Penzance
  6. 52pm Sennan
  7. 54pm St Ives
  8. 58pm Newquay

4pm Padstow

  1. 04pm Bude
Depart up coast of Devon. The fast jets have been a mainstay for decades in training Royal Navy and NATO ships in air defence. The BAE Systems Hawks have been used by the RAF for more than 40 years and the Royal Navy's aircraft date from the 1990s. They were first based at RNAS Culdrose in 1994 and were incorporated into the re-formed 736 Naval Air Squadron in 2013. Click here to see more from RNAS Culdrose.
