A second major storm this winter is expected to arrive tomorrow with a weather warning issued that will impact Helston.

Storm Barra follows the recent Storm Arwen from November, expected to hit from Tuesday (7th) 9am until Wednesday (8th) at 6pm.

Named Barra by the Irish Met Office, it's predicted to hit much of the UK tomorrow. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning that Barra will be accompanied by high winds likely to cause disruption to travel.

The Met Office says:

"A deep area of low pressure moving in across the UK from the Atlantic is likely to bring high winds to many parts of the UK.

"Strong winds arriving into the west through the morning, spreading inland and reaching eastern areas through the afternoon and early evening. Gusts of 45-50 mph are expected widely, with 60-70 mph in exposed coastal locations."

What to expect

  • There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads, and properties.
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.
  • There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close.
  • There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected.
  • There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.
  • There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris.
