Up close with Tech Revive: The shop offering the complete tech service in Helston

By Joseph Macey 27th Jan 2022

The team behind Helston's Tech Revive is settling into their new surroundings after a recent move.

Tech Revive, formerly of Wendron Street, moved into a brand new premises on Meneage Street in December, and recently caught up with Nub News to explain how it all happened.

Owner Danny Tresidder says he is seeing an increased footfall at the new store – which came about after Gillian's Larder closed.

Back in October, Tech Revive were approached by Jonathan and Gillian Geer from Gillian's Larder regarding the shop availability.

Danny agreed, seeing it as a great opportunity to move onto the main street.

How are you finding the new store?

It took around 23 days to renovate the building – we opened on the 20th of December.

I believe the move was right. Around the corner, you see people every half hour whereas here it is every 10/15 minutes. You have cars stop round this part as well which sees more people come in.

Gillian was very welcoming, and the mayor (Tim Grattan Kane) was our first repair in the old shop and our first repair in the new shop. He has been really supportive. He came down with his gold on and cut the ribbon on opening day.

It is different from last year as we opened just before lockdown but this year we have had a positive start. Fingers crossed for no interruptions this year. If there are we can work around it.

For those who aren't aware, tell us a bit about yourself? And how you got into the tech business?

Helston is my hometown, but I started by working with someone from Camborne who owned a phone shop. I was driving from Mullion to Camborne daily - I thought Helston could do with a tech shop.

Back when I was a kid, I was always taking things apart and putting things back together. Fixed my own things at home from TVs to cookers. I got a degree in music and that got my interest in different electronic equipment. I trained as a teacher before taking some time to work at the shop in Camborne.

What would you say makes Tech Revive stand out from other local stores?

Most tech shops do phones, laptops, or they just do one thing. Most of them don't do it all. We do everything, phones, laptops, PCs, tablets, and games consoles. Not only do we fix them we sell them as well, but we also buy them, we sell all the accessories for them. We are always expanding, offering a printing service, we are dedicated to the best tools and machinery to make sure an efficient job is done.

The goal is to be here for the long run - expand things for Helston. We get all the latest games on release date. We are authorised Sony and Nintendo retailers which was a big deal for us because it was a long process to get it.

What's the aim for 2022?

We would like to keep this one going with as many services as possible under one roof. Another idea we had was home visits and having a mobile repair unit.

During lockdown we thought about getting a van and doing it up as a repair unit. Visiting people's houses and sitting outside to repair their tech. That all depends on the covid situation. I am a qualified teacher as well so I can sit down and give tutorials. Little things like that, lessons for people, workshops. There are a lot of ideas.

The new Tech Revive shop on Meneage Street is open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, and Saturday's 9am-4pm.
