Helston Town Council is gearing up to introduce a new action plan to support those who are at risk in the community.

The council is seeking volunteers to be involved in the scheme, tasks will include picking up shopping, posting mail, collecting urgent supplies, giving a regular friendly phone call.

Deputy Mayor, Councillor Tim Grattan-Kane, told Nub News:

"Over the past year, Helston Town Council developed a Community Emergency Plan consultation with our relevant partners, this was adopted at last weeks full council meeting and of course given the likely impact of Coronavirus upon the community, we have decided to make preparations to activate this.

"We are going to provide support for the local community and particularly those people who are in self-isolation. We are not replacing any of the emergency services and we are not replacing the doctor's surgery, we are here to fill the gaps because people can be isolated for a lengthy period of time and be on their own."

He also sought to assure people they will not be exposed anybody to danger.
