Tesco Superstore in Helston is recruiting customer assistants as part of an employment drive to help the supermarket chain keep up with demand amid the Coronavirus epidemic.

Announced earlier this week, Tesco said:

"The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an unprecedented increase in demand for food and household products.

"At Tesco, we're working around the clock to help ensure families have access to the shopping items they need. To help us step up and meet demand, we are bringing in up to 20,000 new colleagues to work in our stores for at least the next twelve weeks."

The job is an immediate start, with various shifts available.

Tesco's Chief People Officer, Natasha Adams said:

"I'm so proud to be welcoming thousands of new colleagues to Tesco. Thank you to everyone offering to help as we work day and night to keep our shelves full for customers. The community spirit at Tesco is fantastic and together, we can do this."

The job description reads:

"You will be responsible for picking customers online orders accurately so they receive the products they requested, delivering department routines, handling products with care to maintain quality, championing the reduction of food waste, following company policies and adhering to health and safety guidelines, being knowledgeable about the products and services in the store and helping customers by giving great natural service."
