Successful bid for new campsite near Helston
Bringing a redundant piece of land back into use with a campsite would boost the local economy.
A proposal had been lodged by Mr Rix Planix UK Planning Consultants on behalf of Simon Truen (the applicant) for a change of use at Boquio Vean, Crelly to camping, erection of reception plus toilet/shower block, access improvements, laying of aggregate hard standing.
The applicant said the proposal would help sustainably secure an income for the applicant and his family whilst also responding to an increased demand for camping holidays in the UK.
"It would contribute to a suitable growth in the local economy, and it would improve the productivity associated with the land in question, which currently has no economically productive use," the application states.
It continues:
"It is well established that camping in the countryside has health and social benefits for families, especially for those who cannot afford vacations involving foreign travel and/or hotel accommodation. Income from the proposed camping business will allow the applicant to fund the installation of a heating system in the main house on site, thus the scheme would add further the health benefits associated with the social sustainability that is required."
The two proposed buildings are to be single storey, made of wood, with flat living roofs, and will be located in close proximity to existing dwellings, and significantly shielded by trees and other vegetation, thus minimising their impact.
Cornwall Council's planning department granted conditional approval for the new campsite this week (17th).
One of the conditions involved the site being used only for the siting of a combined maximum of 22 tents at any one time and no touring caravans, no static caravans, and no campervans.
