Tribute was paid to Helston Nub News today after its close links with the local community produced an inspirational story that has helped a local resident really makes a difference.

Helston-based photographer Ashley Hampson was recently featured on our news pages as we broke the story of his aspirational project to photograph local people as a way of recording how Helston coped with coronavirus.

Once we had featured his story (Read it here) Ashley was 'inundated' with messages from people wanting to take part.

And he took to the airwaves of BBC Cornwall to say thanks and explain how we have helped get the community project underway.

Ashley said: "A local website named Helston Nub News put a little article together for me advertising the project.

"As soon as that went up I was quite inundated with messages."

The project aims to document this unprecedented time in history through the art of photography, while also doing something positive for the community.

Since beginning three weeks ago, Ashley has taken many portraits of families around Helston.

Ashley, originally from Middlesbrough, graduated with a degree in photography from Falmouth University in 2006.

He has since moved back to Cornwall and worked as a professional portrait and wedding photographer since 2010.

He is now teaching photography at Cornwall College while gaining his PGCE.

If you want to book a shoot you can get in touch by contacting Ashley via his Facebook page or text him on 07834542280.

And if you have a community story that you would like to share with the people of Helston and beyond please let us know.
