A woman from Helston has announced she will be cycling 100 miles in sixteen days for charity.

Gemma Priest will be riding 100 miles from 1st August - 16th August in-between working and caring for her family.

The fundraiser is for Sense, an organisation which helps those who are deaf and blind to communicate effectively.

Gemma Priest is a self-proclaimed "crazy lady from the local supermarket who likes to create smiles and share happiness."

Gemma has been collecting and recycling crisp packets, biscuit wrappers, and other rubbish items through a terra-cycle scheme, generating cash for charities from items that would usually end up in landfill.

Talking to Nub News, Gemma said:

"I've always enjoyed a challenge and fundraising helps focus the motivation to help others while achieving your own goals.

"From bake sales to craft fairs, running to exercise events at some point or another I've been involved helping raise funds to enrich the lives of the people that the money supports.

"Many charities are struggling especially at the moment people who depend on the support that charities offer are not getting as much help as they normally would as funds are running low and events that would normally generate much-needed cash are being cancelled.

"So now more than ever every little helps.

"With every crazy plan I come up with, I've been very fortunate to have the support of my amazing family, friends and awesome community in which I live and for this, I'm truly grateful."

Gemma moved to Cornwall when she was eighteen. She met her now husband while working at the parrot show in Flambards. She has lived in Helston for thirteen years.

This cycle challenge will also form part of her 'forty things to do before I am forty' to which she has eight months to complete.
