Speed enforcement on A3059 and surrounding routes

With holiday traffic at its peak and the Boardmasters Festival in Newquay from 7 – 11 August, this week and will be one of the busiest times on Cornwall's roads.

Devon and Cornwall Police and Highways England will be working hard to keep the roads flowing and above all safe. Chief amongst these activities is enforcing the temporary 30mph speed limit on the A3059 at RAF St Mawgan which is put in place to protect people working in the road, and which will be signposted.

The Peninsula Road Safety Partnership Speed will be deploying static safety camera vans at points along the route for this purpose. Additional police motorcyclists and marked and unmarked cars will also be deployed to deal with driver and vehicle offences, collisions, broken down vehicles and congestion.

Superintendent Ian Drummond-Smith said: "With such a large volume of people visiting Cornwall, we will be enforcing against speeding with the aim of reducing traffic collisions and keeping the roads flowing.

"Excessive or inappropriate speed is a cause or exacerbating factor in almost all serious injury or fatal collisions and we will do everything we can to prevent that. Plan ahead, slow down, take your time, you'll get there."

"We will be enforcing the temporary 30mph limit on the A3059, which is in place to protect workers in the road, and in other locations. I'd be happy if we caught nobody speeding.  Please do not speed though this temporary speed limit."

Before setting off on your journey to and through Cornwall, and when it is safe to do so (NEVER use a mobile device handheld while driving), check Traffic Watch on the Devon & Cornwall Police website, updated every 8 minutes: www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/news/traffic-watch

If you are having trouble viewing the interactive map version, there is a simplified version of traffic watch available: www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/news/traffic-watch/textupdates

Temporary speed restrictions are as follows and will be in place from 5 August 2019 to 10pm on 12 August 2019.

30mph - A3059 and B3276 and the unclassified road junction of Benn Park to Aerohub 2.

30mph - A39 at St Columb Major roundabout.

All roads could be subject to mobile camera speed enforcement as the Temporary Traffic Restriction Order is fully enforceable.
