Stuart Finn, the Commanding Officer at RNAS Culdrose has issued a statement following yesterday's plane crash in the area of St Martins.

Yesterday morning, emergency services rushed to the scene of a plane crash that left two individuals with minor injuries.

Two people were treated at the scene as both crew in the Hawk managed to eject.

Captain Stuart Finn, the commanding officer of RNAS Culdrose, said:

"I'd like to thank all the emergency services for their outstanding response in the unfortunate incident yesterday involving one of our Hawk jets. Their swift actions and the highly professional attitude of all those involved is deeply appreciated.

"As an air station, we have also been heartened by the many messages of support from members of the public for the two pilots.

"I'd also like to thank the landowners of the site as the military continues its investigation into this incident."

Defence Minister John Mercer told the BBC yesterday the crash was suspected to be from an engine failure.

There is no update on the pilots at this current time with an RNAS Culdrose spokesperson saying that they remain in hospital (but not seriously so).
