At night under a shining moon, Royal Navy Merlin Mk2 helicopters sit safely lashed to the deck of the carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth.

These submarine-hunting aircraft are from 820 Naval Air Squadron and typically based at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose at Helston in Cornwall.

Around 190 men and women with seven helicopters from the squadron are taking part in the carrier strike group's seven-month historic deployment to the Far East.

There are also around 50 aviation specialists from RNAS Culdrose's 1700 Naval Air Squadron serving on the carrier and her support ships.

The ships recently passed through the Suez Canal as part of the deployment, working with the UK's allies around the world with planned visits across the Indo-Pacific region.

The group also includes Royal Navy frigates and destroyers, supply ships, F35 jets from 617 Squadron, and helicopters from 815 and 845 naval air squadrons.
