The Helston Flora Day Association is asking for residents to send in their Flora Day photos to archive them for future generations.

This was announced on social media today:

"A picture paints a thousand words, so the saying goes, and it really does. Long after the memory fades, we can look back at a photo and remember those wonderful days that have pasted celebrating with family and friends.

"Photos are beautiful memories of moments gone by that for one reason or other, we feel the urge to capture. For this reason, between now and the 8th May, we would like you all to share your Flora Day photos with us so that an archive for future generations can be shared together."

Nick Wills, the Helston Flora Day Hon Secretary told Nub News:

"We are just encouraging people to get involved, it is a nice thing to do because Flora Day is usually decorating the town but we can just share some memories and photos that people may not have seen before.

"I am at a loose end at the moment, as I am usually very busy this time of year. I am a Helstonian and I am upset as anyone that we are not going to have our day this year.

"I was trying to think of ways of how people can do something and stay safe, there are so many people at home that have a lot of time on their hands so they could dig through their old pictures and dig out memories of people who are with us or who have passed away. This can all be collated over the next year and put into a website or on our page."

Submissions will be accepted today (23rd) and will run until what was supposed to be Flora Day.

Nick also commented on the decision to cancel Flora Day, he added:

"We gave it as much time as we could for this pandemic to pass but when you have national events that are being cancelled, we just had to follow suit, we couldn't be foolish and expect people to pay money for dresses and you couldn't have the burden of it afterwards.

"We had to give it a bit of time but just do it as soon as we could really, it wasn't feasible to put it on."
