A Helston cross country race that attracts hundreds of runners returns after two covid affected years.

On Saturday 26th March Coose Trannack race will also celebrate its 20th anniversary - whilst raising vital funds for Trannack School.

Organised by Friends of Trannack School, the day consists of 8 races for children in reception through to under 16s. As well as the adult fun run that covers distances between 300m to 4.8km.

The course is well known for its demanding gradient, often exacerbated by the harsh Cornish wind and rain and the soft conditions underfoot. In spite of these challenges the race often pulls in excess of 450 competitors from local schools and running clubs.

A spokesperson for the cross country event told Nub News:

"As with any event such as this, funding and community spirit are so important. Without the financial sponsorship from Helstonbury Music Festival and the kind permission of Mrs Cecily Miller for the use of her field for parking, we would really struggle to organise and pull the event off.

"The primary purpose of the event is to raise funds for Trannack School, but there is way more to Coose Trannack Cross Country Race than that. It is about pulling the community together, supporting the contestants for the challenges they have accepted and the encouragement along the way, this is the heartbeat of Coose and without it, there would be no races."
